Bruges Restaurants Now Offering Kids Menu

Does your family love waffles? Bruges has an exciting announcement for those with smaller palettes. Following in the ways of traditional fast food franchises, Bruges Waffles & Frites has added a variety of kids menu items to our regular menu. These items include:

 

  • Waffle bites (served with creme fraiche and strawberries)
  • Build your own waffle creations
  • Mini burgers
  • Grilled cheese waffle sandwiches
  • Grilled ham and cheese waffle sandwiches

 

Kids menu items are served at our Draper, Provo and Sugar House restaurant locations. Going forward, our restaurant franchises will each carry a selection of kids menu items to continue to appeal to our younger friends.

 

“Traditional fast food franchises have seen a lot of success while serving kids menu items, as they make the overall restaurant a more family friendly place,” said Pierre Vandamme, Belgian native and Founder of Bruges Waffles & Frites. “While Bruges is not a fast food restaurant, we still want to appeal to people of all ages and introduce them to our authentic waffles.”

 

Bruges has continued to add to our menu over the years to offer more variety of Belgian comfort foods. We started in the farmers market of Salt Lake City serving authentic Liege waffles. As the demand for authentic food grew, we expanded into a year round restaurant location and began serving authentic Frites (Belgian ‘french’ fries). From that point, we began offering other specialties including Flemish Stew, waffle sandwiches and even our signature Machine Gun Sandwich. As we continue to develop a broader range of menu items, we decided it was time to cater to our younger dining guests. Bruges has already created a loyal following, and our fans rave about us on social media and review sites. By catering to the next generation, we are encourage this positive feedback continues.

When Bruges introduced their waffles at the 2003 Salt Lake City Farmers’ Market, we were on a mission to share the best Belgian waffles people had ever tasted. Bruges Restaurants Named Among ‘Top Restaurants in Utah that Are Hard to Get in, But worth the Wait’

Onlyinyourstate.com recently released an article naming Bruges Waffles & Frites among Utah’s top ten restaurants that are hard to get in, but totally worth the wait! The article cites that going out to eat at any restaurant in Utah on a weekend may keep you waiting, but most will have only sub par dishes in a not-so-special ambiance. On the top ten list, they cited 10 restaurants that, while you may have to wait, will make the time you spend in line worth the wait. Bruges is the second on the list.

 

While our restaurants may have limited seating, our authentic Belgian cuisine is life changing. Our fourth Utah restaurant opened in Draper in August 2015, and serves as a prototype for future franchise restaurants. While all of our restaurants have elements of Belgian culture featured throughout the decor, the Draper restaurant added authentic Belgian comics painted as a mural on inside walls that brings to life some of our most famous dishes. We believe in creating a European dining experience meant to give our customers the atmosphere to enjoy their food in with family and friends. Bruges Restaurant Franchises Celebrate National Waffle Day

Bruges Waffles & Frites restaurant franchises love waffles. In fact, we’ve built our business around them! Join Bruges as we celebrate International Waffle Day on March 25! In honor of the occasion, we have prepared some of our favorite fun facts about waffles:

 

  1. Waffles are so popular in America, they have two days honoring them! While March 25 is International Waffle day that recognizes the waffle’s beginning in Sweden. August 24 is National Waffle day and commemorates the first patented waffle iron in the USA in 1869.
  2. Waffles are not a new food! In the middle ages, waffles were cooked over a fire between two metal plates and a wooden handle. Some of these plates had the grid design we know today, while others were much fancier boasting coats of arms.
  3. The first known waffle recipe dates back to the 14th century written by a husband giving his young wife directions for baking the treat she had come to love.
  4. The waffle was introduced to America by the Pilgrims. Travelling without this comfort food must have seemed unbearable.
  5. Record for the The World’s Largest Waffle was set by Stitchting Gouda Oogst of the Netherlands in 2013. The waffle weighed 110 pounds 3.68 oz, and had a diameter of 8 ft 1.24 inches!
  6. The World Waffle Eating Championships experienced an upset in 2007 when Patrick Bertoletti ate 29 waffles in 10 minutes beating the former champion.
  7. Waffles are not all created equal! Different varieties include: Brussels, Liege, American, Scandinavian, Hong Kong and Dutch stroopwafels.
  8. Waffle is a Dutch word for ‘Wafer.’
  9. Waffles are such a beloved food that Parry Gripp even wrote a song called, “Do You Like Waffles?”
